My husband and I awoke to quite a surprise this morning. There was a lost dog hanging out on our porch. We could tell immediately that she was a female who was pregnant or recently had puppies. She was a nice looking dog and appeared to be hungry so we fed her. And, she was really, really hungry. In the meantime, our two dogs were being held hostage so as not to scare her.

We called Marsha at McKennel's to help us out. We were not sure if she was a lost dog or an abandoned dog but nonetheless we called upon our local dogcatcher to give us some assistance. After the dog got finished eating she immediately went into our dog's doghouse. And, when Marsha began driving up the driveway, the dog ran from the doghouse towards the woods. Marsha attempted to coax her but she was scared and skittish. Marsha decided that she would come back with a trap after realizing that the dog was not willing to come on her own.

As soon as Marsha left, the dog resurfaced from the woods and went back towards the doghouse. She was so funny because before she went into the doghouse, she scoped out the scene to make sure that it was safe. After realizing that the new visitor was in fact gone, she went back into the safety of the doghouse.

In the meantime, I asked my husband to take some pictures of her so that I could do a story on the Rumford Reporter to alert an owner that we found the lost dog if that was the case. While he was out there, he was able to approach the dog while she was in the doghouse and he hooked her up to our dog's chain. My husband then called Marsha back to let her know that she didn't need to bring the trap because we had successfully secured her. Marsha came back to the house and took the dog in her possession. The dog is now at McKennel's.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank Marsha McKenna for her quick response to the lost dog call. She did not hestitate for one moment to help us and ensure the dog was safe. Marsha does such a great service for our community and we wanted to take this opportunity to not only thank her for her help with this lost dog but all the other animals that she helps and ensures are safe and fed. Marsha runs an adoption agency. We actually adopted our dog, Sarge, from McKennel's and everyday we thank God for him. He is the best dog ever. So, for the owner who may be looking for this precious lost dog, we found him. And, if in fact this dog was abandoned, it looks like McKennel's will have one more dog that is looking for a warm, loving home.
